Internal communications are all about promoting effective communication among people within an organization. It involves producing and delivering messages and campaigns on behalf of management, as well as facilitating a dialogue with the people who make up the organization. This can mean anything from announcing a new policy or informing people of an upcoming event, to conducting an org-wide engagement or culture audit. IC is usually the responsibility of HR, marketing, or PR departments, but can be done by any and all departments across an org.

The success of any company initiative depends on whether employees can meet strategic organizational objectives. If most employees feel disconnected from the business and don’t understand why decisions are being made, the organization’s program is likely to fail. Ultimately, good internal communications support the kind of engagement that drives desired business outcomes. Strong internal communications provide a major strategic advantage.
