INTRODUCTION
- This Legionella Awareness Training Course is for anyone involved in legionella bacteria control in hot and cold water systems. However, who do not have overall responsibility.
- Throughout the course, we help candidates to understand the risk of Legionnaires’ disease. Additionally, candidates know how to implement actions to minimise the risk and control measures.

- Recognise the responsibilities of responsible persons and management of Legionella.

COURSE AUDIENCE
This course is made for :
- Suitable for Managers and employees who need a general awareness concerning Legionella proliferation in typical environments, health effects, the controls that can be used to manage the risk of exposure and duty holders responsibilities.

COURSE OUTLINE
DAY ONE:
Introduction.
Knowledge of the origins of Legionnaires’ disease, Legionella bacteria and the multiplication factors which allow it to proliferate in engineered water systems.
Identification of the main conditions that are required for legionella associated infection to take place and how this understanding may be used to manage and control risk more effectively.
DAY TWO:
Awareness of current legal requirements, approved codes of practice and best practice guidance including COSHH, the HSE’s ACOP L8 and HSG274 Parts 2 and 3.
Basic design of water systems and their components.
An overview of “other” risk systems.
DAY THREE:
Implementation of a legionella control plan with suitable monitoring programmes and records as identified in the Health & Safety Executives technical guidance documents HSG274 Parts 2 and 3 dealing with the control of Legionella bacteria in both “hot and cold water systems” and “other risk systems“.
DAY FOUR:
Understanding the written scheme of control for legionella.
General awareness of the risk assessment processes as defined in BS 8580-1 for hot and cold water systems.
DAY FIVE:
Examination – assessment and test of competence.
Discussion and feedback.
